About Charlie Howard
Rep. Charlie Howard is an effective legislator for you who are privileged to live in District 26. His is serious about his responsibilities in the Texas State House.
As the issues page on his website shows, he has accomplished many of his goals that have resulted in smaller government and less intrusiveness of government in the lives of Texas citizens. Rep. Howard’s legislative work has not gone unnoticed; he has been given awards by numerous state and national conservative organizations.
Charlie Howard has been effective in working with fellow legislators and with local elected officials in Fort Bend County to pass his legislation. Since no man is an island in political ventures, he has effectively built coalitions in the State House among fellow legislators to both pass his legislation and to kill bad bills. Also, Charlie has been successful in working with city and county governments on many issues including the widening of Hwy 59, Hwy 90A, Hwy 6 overpass at 90A, the preservation of Quail Valley Golf Course, the joint control of Stafford Municipal School District, the establishment of U of H Campus in Sugar Land, and the creation of the Wharton Technical School in Rosenberg.
Missouri City Mayer Allen Owens said, “We did it. We are especially thankful for all the hard work and dedication you gave to this very important piece of legislation that will preserve the home values in my City…Your door has always been open for me and the concerns of my citizens and I appreciate that as they do,” in a letter to Charlie Howard dated June 19, 2007 following passage of Charlie’s bill to preserve the Quail Valley Golf Course.
Sugar Land Mayor David Wallace wrote in a letter dated June 15, 2007, “We greatly appreciate your leadership and efforts with respect to helping to get the language placed in SB 909 relating to the Central Prison Unit in Sugar Land…As you are aware this was the only pro-active legislation that City Council had placed on our Legislative Agenda. You have, from the beginning, been supportive of our efforts to help secure our future with regarding this prison property and its higher and better use for the Sugar Land Regional Airport and our economic development program….thank you for being our representative in looking out for the best interest of our constituents.”
Stafford Mayor Leonard Scarcella stated in a letter dated September 21, 2007, “On behalf of the City of Stafford, I express my appreciation for all of your strong leadership and outstanding efforts on behalf of our City during the past legislative session. The significant time and effort you spent nurturing the school legislation, which would have authorized our voters to petition for an election on the control of SMSD and the firefighters legislation…would never have progressed through the House without your determined and skillful efforts.”
Rep. Howard’s varied professional experience, his long history of volunteer service to Fort Bend County, and his ability to network with people give him an excellent background for serving the people of Fort Bend in the Texas State House.
His character and family values have served him well by giving him a foundation for standing firm for his convictions on promoting economic development, lower state spending and tax cuts, and traditional values.
